Al interned at WLNS TV6, Lansing, Michigan's CBS affiliate, during the summer of 2011 and stayed until the end of the year. After graduating from Michigan State University, Fred Heumann, WLNS TV6 sports director, contacted Al and asked if he was interested in a job interview. He was hired on the spot.
After just seven months at WLNS TV6, WKAR reached out, offering Martin an opportunity to craft and rebrand sports for the station. "Current Sports with Al Martin" has continued to grow by the year!
The Detroit native is a 2012 graduate of the College of Communication Arts & Sciences at MSU. His passion for sports journalism began as a high school student when he was sports editor of his High School newspaper.
Throughout his career he has covered the World Series, an NCAA men’s basketball Final Four, the Rose Bowl, countless Big Ten Championship games, and so much more. He has interviewed and covered coaches and athletes like Ervin “Magic” Johnson, Steve Smith, Kirk Cousins, Tony Dungy, and Tom Izzo.
With his relaxed, warm personality, Martin has become a fixture in the state of Michigan as a sports broadcaster and reporter.
